Celebrating 25 Years with Gila Rut: Christine Gamalinda
Dec 01, 2017

Christine Gamalinda is passionate, beautiful, talented and dedicated. She joined the Gila Rut team in 2008, and we’ve loved watching her blossom and seeing her dreams become realities. Christine has held countless positions with us through the years: guest relations, stylist assistant, color expert, creative team member, mentor and educator.

What prompted you to work at Gila Rut?
I worked at Lancôme as a makeup artist for two years prior to joining Gila Rut. Makeup was my passion at the time, and I wanted to advance to doing makeup on clients in a salon environment. I was intrigued by the fast-paced hustle and fashion-forward environment at Gila Rut.

What was your defining moment that brought you to be a hairdresser/manager?
After working the front desk for a year and a half, my co-workers and manager helped me ignite a hidden passion for beauty—specifically hairstyling. That little push motivated me to leave San Diego State University and pursue my real passion.

How has Gila Rut changed the course of your career?
I started at Gila Rut as a front desk associate/makeup artist while I was going to college. Now I’m a senior stylist and color educator. When I came to Gila Rut, I didn’t know it was going to be my career for life.

What are some of your hobbies outside of work?
I love spending time with family, going to the gym, taking my dog to the park and dancing. I’m also a huge foodie and have a passion for traveling.

If you could do anyone’s hair, who would it be?
Jennifer Lopez is my dream client, hands down!

What the craziest thing anyone has said while in your chair?
I’ve built trust with many of my guests; let’s just say I’ve heard it all! My lips are sealed.

How often do you change your hairstyle?
I don’t change my style as often as I should – I’m too busy! I would say at least twice a year.

What’s your biggest claim to fame/biggest achievement?
Aside from being the first Rution (Gila Rut team member) in history to start as a front desk associate and work all the way up to an educator, I would have to say my biggest achievement would be working backstage and presenting a 25-minute presentation at Aveda Congress 2015 with my team! Another big achievement was being the lead colorist and lead makeup artist on our creative team in our 2017 Trans Photo shoot.

How does it make you feel celebrating 25 years with Gila Rut?
I’m so proud of Gila Rut and myself for these years! I have witnessed so many accomplishments, seen obstacles overcome and experienced a ton of both professional and physical growth. I am so grateful for these amazing 10 years with Gila Rut and I can’t wait to see what’s in the near future!
