Celebrating 25 Years with Gila Rut: Elida Dozal
Nov 21, 2017

Elida is talented, big-hearted and hardworking. She’s blossomed since she began working at Gila Rut in 2005. When she started, she was a young girl full of dreams, and now she’s a woman achieving big things. She’s surrounded by love and support from her husband and three sons. Her big heart and unique humor make her a favorite among our team. As an educational director, Elida’s commitment to our team’s growth has been essential to our success. We’re thrilled to be celebrating 25 years and grateful she’s been along for the ride for 13 of them. Fun fact: Her talent expands beyond hair and into the kitchen, and she showers us with delicious treats.

What prompted you to work at Gila Rut?
I knew it was the place for me when I walked in. Everyone was so nice and welcoming. I loved the idea of specializing in hair color and the strong education program—that continues to be a huge attraction.

What was your job/career prior to working at Gila Rut?
I worked as an HIV test counselor for a nonprofit organization, where I educated people on how to reduce the risks of contracting the virus, administered the appropriate medical testing and provided counseling for positive HIV/AIDS test results.

How has Gila Rut changed the course of your career?
I have grown so much personally and professionally in the past 13 years. Gila Rut has always been supportive of my growth. I started off as an assistant and now hold a position as one of our educational directors. It’s so rewarding to see the growth in other stylists; it’s brought me full circle.

If you could do anyone’s hair, who would it be?
I would love to do Marcela Valladolid’s hair. She is a local celebrity chef. I follow her on Instagram.

What’s the craziest thing anyone has said while in your chair?
Someone once asked, “How do you think I can take marijuana in my luggage to Hawaii?” I have to add—I also had a client show me her breasts after a boob job in the changing room.

What’s your biggest claim to fame/biggest achievement?
My biggest achievement with Gila Rut is being an educator.
